Darwin Flying School covers all aspects of flight training for the novice and experienced pilot. From our premises at Darwin Airport, highly qualified instructors will guide you through your General Flying Progress Test (GFPT), incorporating flight theory, dual and solo flying training, and the GFPT Flight Test which, on successful completion, allows you to carry passengers within the boundaries of the training area around Darwin. The GFPT course takes about four weeks if conducted full time, longer on a part time basis.

This licence involves passing a theory exam and completing a flight training course consisting of eight navigation exercises (NAVEX), operating in and out of the Darwin and Katherine, over Kakadu through areas classed as Designated Remote and specialising in the use of bush airstrips. After reaching the required standard and completing a Flight Test with our in house Approved Testing Officer (ATO), you will be able to fly passengers anywhere in Australia. The PPL course takes about two weeks full time, longer on a part time basis.

Advanced Training, Commercial Pilot's Licence (CPL). Flight training for both 200 and 150 hour CPL can be conducted. Darwin Flying School has a close association with many of the charter operators in the Top End, ensuring your training will meet the standards required when seeking work. The Top End of the Northern Territory is one of Australia's most popular locations for pilots seeking their first job, and the training you undertake will provide invaluable local knowledge.

Instrument Rating Training. Command Instrument Rating and Private IFR training in both multi and single engine aircraft is available. The mix of Primary Radar Control and OCTA operations combined with the Northern Territory's range of extreme weather conditions provides an ideal training environment.

Darwin Flying School can assist overseas visitors (through CASA) to obtain a certificate of validation or licence conversion for use within Australia, and also offer an Aircraft Hire service, a great way to see the Northern Territory's unique tourist attractions, or to visit remote localities off the beaten track.
